Hi everyone,
I’m planning to convert virtual machines from VMware to Hyper-V using Commvault’s “VM Conversion” feature. The official documentation https://documentation.commvault.com/11.42/commcell-console/converting_from_vmware_to_hyper_v.html mentions that a Windows Server 2012 R2 host is required as the destination system.
Is this requirement still valid, or is there support for newer Windows versions?

best regards,

Andreas

Hello @ak2 I believe this is a case where the documentation team perhaps needs to be engaged and review the statement on the link you shared.

The reason I think that is the case in this instance, is because I noticed the link you shared, at the top section where you select which product you want to browse the documentation, you have Commcell Console selected.

I then browsed the SaaS documentation (https://documentation.commvault.com/saas/converting_to_hyper_v.html)  and it says: “The destination client must be a Hyper-V server, with Windows Server 2012 R2 or a more recent version, that has the Virtual Server Agent installed.”

It would be odd to have this particular capability available in SaaS but not in the non saas offering.

To expand on that, I also asked Arlie the question below which was confirmed to support all newer versions of windows;

Hope it helps.

I believe dude is correct here, I don’t have the means to test at the moment but I’m sure there’s no requirement for 2012 R2 only.

There is currently a lot of work being done to our documentation and this may be an oversight. I’ll make sure the team are aware of this.

Thank you for bringing it up.
