We are currently having performance issues with our backups of Dynamics 365 and are looking to use the "Enable Table Change Tracking" feature.

The owning team have sought clarification on whether or not this option is simply enabling and leveraging the Dynamics 365 Change Tracking feature, and if so, what implications could that have for their environment?

Also, is there any indication as to when / if we can expect Dynamics 365 to be included in the core Commvault platform?

Hi @Erase4ndReuseMedia ,

You can use the Enable Table Change tracking feature in Dynamics 365 and that will not impact in the Dynamics 365 environment.

At the moment, Dynamics 365 is available in the SaaS platform and there is no ETA if this will be included in the Commvault Cloud Software platform.

Hi @GnanaPrakasam - I am really interested in understanding whether or not the "Enable Table Change Tracking" option within Commvault is enabling and leveraging a native Dynamics 365 feature.

Hi @Erase4ndReuseMedia ,

Please refer the below document for Change block tracking on the Commvault end.

https://docs.metallic.io/metallic/configuring_change_tracking_in_dynamics_365_plan.html

“This feature is useful in cases where Dynamics 365 users have not turned on changed tracking for their tables. You can enable change tracking for all backup content at once, without having to configure the feature for each table in Dynamics 365.”

So, we will not leverage the Change tracking on the Dynamics 365 end when it is enabled on the Commvault end.

Hi @GnanaPrakasam

Those statements appear contradictory.

If Commvault isn’t leveraging native D365 Change Tracking, how is it tracking changes?

Hi @GnanaPrakasam, Is there any update as to how Change Tracking is occurring?

Hi @Erase4ndReuseMedia ,

Once you enable the change tracking in the Commvault Cloud Console, it will leverage the change tracking on the Dynamics 365 end. Hence, it is not necessary for you to enable the change tracking on every table in the Dynamics end.
