Ok, gonna post out here because I’m not sure where to go. I’ve logged a ticket, but I don’t think customer support is going to help me find out why all of our space is getting sucked up.

First, thanks for reading.

We are completely out of space and I have no idea where to start troubleshooting why. We went to the Metallic over a year ago for auxiliary copies (primaries are stored on location) and quickly used up our 45TB of space. 2 months ago, we purchased another 10TB and that is now gone as well.

I just cant seem to find a process for troubleshooting. Could it be we are not reclaiming space? Are the backups not set correctly and doing a full every time? What jobs are taking the most space. I run some reports, but they are often just a wall of text that I can’t make heads nor tails out of.

Anyway, I’m not helpless. I can follow some steps, but I don even know where to begin. I’ve only been around CV for a couple of years. But have a little experience with Veeam and Rubik. I’m used to 6 incrementals and one full type backups. Maybe I’ve made things to simple.

Is there a report that shows, for example, during the last 7 days, here are the jobs that ran and how much space they took up. I feel like there is, but I can’t find it.

I see some of the jobs that run and things like “big data apps” and such..I don’t even know what those are.

Anyway, if anyone can offer some suggestions, I’d really appreciate it.

hello @ErickOR

First, welcome to the Commvault community!

For your situation, the "Jobs in Storage Policy Copies" report should be very helpful. This report displays both the size of the application and the media size (data written), which includes the size of the data after deduplication and compression, along with index and metadata. You can find it here:https://store.commvault.com/webconsole/softwarestore/store.do#!/135/660/26149

Regarding "Big Data Apps," you can also look for classic index jobs. These jobs include the IDA for V2 indexing backups and cleanup. Each storage policy has a corresponding Index Server pseudo-client, which you can find in the Client Computer Groups under Index Servers. Typically, the pseudo-client shares the same name as the storage policy it corresponds to. More information can be found here:https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/expert/index_backup_operations_indexing_version_2.html

If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, feel free to ask!

Hi Mohamed,

While i respect your answer, I find it absurd that I have to completely uninstall / reinstall a product to simply load a report. We’re stuck on version 11.28

Thanks for the answer.

Not sure why you need to uninstall / reinstall anything, but the “Jobs in Storage Policy Copies” report is available via the CommCell Console.

Yes...I decided to go more friendly than a “nice troll” comment. Trying to take the high road.

Fair enough. Not sure why you thought it was a troll, but irrespective, I hope it works for you.

LOL...thanks. Its been 3.5 weeks, but I finally made some progress with a support person who went WAY out of scope to help. Will try and post a re-cap of what I found.
