To leverage MCSS we need to select a MA on premise and then send it to Azure. If you wish to leverage dedupe which is turned on by default the DDB will need to reside on the MA on premise correct? Also the MCSS/Azure is Cool Storage, correct? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Joe,

The DDB for MCSS is kept on the MA.  Typically there is a policy created for the DDB to be backed up and placed in the primary copy location. You can create a secondary copy of DDB that goes into MCSS as well - but does not make much sense, creating so many copies of DDB, since DDB is not required for restores - only index cache is needed for restores.

MCSS, now called Metallic Recovery Reserve, has options for Hot or Cool.

Thanks,

Guy
