End of Support for SQL Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2. SQL Server 2012 reached end of support on July 12, 2022, and Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 reaches end of support on October 10, 2023.

I think you should follow the below steps.

1. Run a DR backup before OS Migration to OS 2016; Take a VM Snapshot
2. Once OS is Migrated, reinstall CV (will install compatible SQL Version) and recover from DR backup (keep the DR folder accessible from new server for this to happen)

@Rohit1984 why not upgrade to Windows 2022 or Windows 2019? 

Commvault stopped supporting SQL 2012 as a CommServe platform last year - releases beyond FR30 (2023 platform release) will not allow you to update while SQL 2012 is in place as they are taking advantage of new SQL features found in 2016 and beyond for better scale and performance.

Note that Microsoft Windows 2016 ended mainstream support last year too - so probably better to adopt a newer version if you can.

The best option here is a HW refresh with a fresh reinstall of the CommServe on Windows 2019 or newer. That will bring SQL up to SQL 2019 which will be supported for a long time and you wont have to worry about the OS for a while.

Be very careful leveraging a snapshot rollback as a DR plan - it can cause all sorts of issues by desyncing with the deduplication databases, disk library etc.
