Question

Commvault SQL server AAG Replication group

Hello Everyone, I would like to understand if SQL AAG(has 6 nodes) can be selected as the source client while configuring a replication group from command center. My customer has a similar set up where the Pseudo AAG client is source and destination is stand alone SQL DB in the replication group.

Has anyone worked on a similar configuration, please share your experience.

Hi @Rupa

You are speaking of leveraging live sync to replicate the database? Yes you can replicate any source SQL instance, AG, Cluster, standalone, etc to any other SQL instance as long as the destination is the same or higher version of SQL running and the source DBs are full recovery model.

Its is not uncommon to replicate from cluster or similar HA setups to a standalone DR or relevant server for restore testing purposes, DR, HA, etc.

@Scott Reynolds : That’s absolutely correct. Leverage livesync for SQL AAG . The AG cluster has 6 nodes(3- on prem and 3 cloud ) and for an instance the on prem nodes are unreachable. Will the livesync for AG instance  continue to work  ?

I believe yes. as we are only replicating the “backups” from the AG instance to the  destination standalone SQL instance.

Your thoughts please. Is there any documentation specific to SQL AG replication/Livesync for reference.

Thank You

@Rupa

There is no specific doc here as its the same if its AG or not it does not matter.

Yes live sync will work as log as the backups are running without issue on the source.
