Download Media Options - Full Kit vs Media Kit

I don’t really understand what the difference is b/w these two options, Media Kit - Join an Existing Commcell or Full Media Kit. Basically when I tried to update a media agent from 11.24.19 to v11.25.14 using the advance option, it failed. Now the Media Agent is offline and fails to update while other MA’s it worked OK. So of these selections, which one should I try on the MA that failed to update?

Difference between Media Kit - Join an existing Commcell and Full media kit is that the first option will only download the packages for the components required on the client you are installing on whilst the full media kit will download every package for every component/agent.

If installing on a single client, Media Kit - Join an existing Commcell is recommended.

If downloading to install onto multiple clients / whole environment, full media kit is recommended

Hi @tsmtmiller,

You can use the option for “Media Kit - Join an existing Commcell” or “Full Media Kit” If you plan to use this for others servers as well such as the Commserve.

“Advanced” requires manually selecting all of the packages that are installed on the machine otherwise the installation will fail due to missing packages.

If you intend to copy the software to the Commserve Software Cache, select the option for Full Media Kit.

If you continue to experience issues with updating this Media Agent please don’t hesitate to create a support case and someone will be happy to assist you further with this.

Hello thanks for the tips. I did manage to find https://kb.commvault.com/article/CSMS0001 however this is not solving my issue so I will need to open a case up. Thanks.
