ESXi socket license release when VM does not exist anymore

Hi,

The customer wanted to release vm socket license for esxi host. In normal condition to do so you have to make full backup of VM on other esxi host, right?

What if VM and subclient does not exist anymore and retention for last backup is infinity? He can’t delete the backup.

The customer was using VM backup report to check last backups on esxi.

The customer had to make backup of all VM’s in environment (all subclients) to solve the case. Is that normal?

Lukasz

Yes normally if VM doesn't exist anymore, you would  just run a new full backup on that subclient that held the VM, but in this case if the subclient doesn't exist anymore either, that obviously is not possible. I believe after 30 days of the VM being "offline" in VCenter it will determine the VM does not exist and remove from the license.  I will verify this today and update this thread with my findings.

Hi @Orazan ,

what’s the result of your test?

Lukasz
