Excuse my ignore but will deleting the existing index trigger an index restore?

Good afternoon.  It is never recommended to delete the index.  In the old v1 index days this was something that was seen more often, but with the v2 model used for most agents it is strongly advised against.  You can check the index state report which will allow you to verify that the indexes are being backed up successfully.  We automatically cleanup/compact the index during index protection operations.

Just curious, what are you trying to do?


Honestly not sure, the customer said the index appeared to be using alot of disk. 

With v1 I would just turn index retention down or just delete the index since it was held with the data.

The customer is aware of these v1 tricks and asked me whether he can just delete the index. 

Obviously I didn’t think so given the differences between v1 and v2 but I was curious what the answer here would be.
