Hello everybody,

AWS Backup is currently offering Full and Incremental level backups when it comes to protect RDS instances on AWS Cloud (Reference: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonRDS/latest/UserGuide/USER_WorkingWithAutomatedBackups.html)

Using Commvault v11.32, documentation states that Commvault can only perform Full level backup which involves huge cost when doing AWS Native Snapshot protection when it comes to protect RDS instances (Reference: https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/essential/backing_up_amazon_rds_instance_group.html)

Is there any way to perform Incremental snapshot of RDS instances in the future using Commvault on AWS ?

FYI, I am already aware about the export and dump based backup for RDS instances but those are too inconvenient to restore (for export, it requires an EC2 instance with a configured database to receive the data; for dump based backup, we need a configured database engine on an Access Node or the Media Agent to receive the data, which is a nightmare to configure).

Thank you in advance for your answer !

Hi @JohnCM

Can we know which AWS RDS database backup are you planning here?

Is it Oracle, PG DB or some other DB?

Hello @CV_GK,

We are planning to do it for Oracle and maybe for MSSQL also.
