I am replacing my Windows 2012 CommVault physical server with new 2019 physical server.  I have several disk drives on the current server with commvault backup data I need to retain and I have same configuration on the new server except with larger disks.

How do I migrate the CV database & data to new server?

@Stickley

Please refer to CS and MA hardware refresh docs here -

https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/4739_commserve_hardware_refresh_overview.html

https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/11069_mediaagent_hardware_refresh_overview.html

These outline the steps / procedures you need to follow to complete this task.

Any questions please let me know.

Are you implying you have local disks in the CS which are used as a Disk Library?

Scott,

That is correct, I have 20TB of internal storage on the server and an Attached QNAPP NAS with an additional 150TB

Are the local disks and NAS shares being used for the same Disk Library?

Does the NAS array have at least 20TB of available space at the moment?  I ask this because I wonder if it would be worth migrating the Mount Paths using local disks to the NAS storage, which would be much easier to migrate between Media Agents than local disks.

Thanks,
Scott

Scott,

Below is a screen shot of the Storage & Libraries.  I have space available to create another LUN on the NAS to move the Internal data to if that would make the migration easier.

OK, you have several local paths in your Disk Library.

When you refresh the CS, the new CS will need access to these.  During a MA refresh, this is easier because you can have both MAs online at the same time and move the data between them.  For a CS refresh, you are not going to have both CS online at the same time.  It makes it more complicated.

Hence why I was asking if you have space on the NAS.  If you could move these local paths to the NAS, the new CS will automatically have access to all of the Mount Paths when it comes online.  Nothing needs to be moved between the physical hosts.

Thanks,
Scott
