Hi,

“If I move a server to backup to a different plan, will Commvault force the next backup to Full?”

Nope

Thanks,
Scott

Hi @SanRoh

No, next backup will not be forced to Full.

Are both plans going to use same Media Agent? If not, let’s consider the following scenario -

  • Plan A uses Media Agent 1
  • Plan B uses Media Agent 2

The data that was backed up via Plan A will remain at MA1. When the plan is changed, the subsequent backup data will now be stored on the newer MA i.e. MA 2.

For example,

  • Consider file1.txt was backed up via plan A, and later this subclient was associated to a plan B having a different MA.
  • If the file1.txt was modified and and incremental backup is run, the modified file1.txt will be backed up to MA 2.
  • If you restore both versions of file1.txt, then both the MA’s will be used to recover the data (Version 1 of file resides in MA1, whereas version 2 of file resides in MA2).

Please note that, for such scenario, MA1 should still be available for data recovery purposes and shouldn’t be scraped away.

Thanks,

Sparsh
