Hi Experts,

is there somewhere a best practicse guide for “How to backup MS SQL Always On Cluster with Intellisnap” ?
Is this supportet from CommVault?

Should we do only a snaps from the replica?

Thank you in advanced.

Hello @VolkerJ

Yes that config is supported. The config setup is the same as any other client and or setup. However,

for AlwaysOn Cluster you would want to set backup preference to primary replica as noted here:

https://kb.commvault.com/article/54167

Also note that for restore you would want to leverage a proxy for restores

Transaction log backups will still be performed via SQL VDI API. That and some other info noted in the FAQ

Hi,

thanks for the answer @Scott Reynolds.

Is that written down in BOL (Docs) anywhere as “official statement” that IntelliSnap is supported as backup method for SQL DBs running in a Always On Cluster?

Maybe it could be added to the FAQ.

Many thanks

Julian

Hi @Scott Reynolds

many thanks for the quick response.

I found the following in BOL.

https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/37179_platforms.html

What is meant by “AG” - Always On availability group?
That would mean that IntelliSnap is supportet for “Always On Cluster”.

Kind regards

Julian

Yes, that is correct.

AG = short for AlwaysOn Availability Group

Ok, so does that mean, that it’s supported to backup SQL DBs in an AG (Always On Cluster) via IntelliSnap?

Is that the “official statement”?

Everything I find in BOL is very confusing…

Yes, its supported as noted above in my original post and your screenshot and link as well.

Ok, cool.

I was just a little bit confused because you wrote “Its not clearly stated that its supported”.
