Hello Team,

We are planning to configure O365 backup using Commvault in an on-premises environment.

Please advise the hardware requirement of Media agent, access node & indexing and any other prerequisites.

We have deduplication hardware appliance that will use of Disk library.

The access node we are planning to keep in DMZ environment, so that what are the ports communication is needed from internal and o365 communication also.

And please let me know the deduplication and compression will use Commvault end or external storage appliance.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @AnandK

PFB system requirement for Media agent server https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/mediaagent_system_requirements_01.html
Ports required by commvault and services associated
https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/essential/port_requirements_for_commvault.html
https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/tcp_ports_used_for_services.html

If you use Dedupe storage policy with commvault will manage compression and deduplication
In case the data is getting saved on any data domain the storage side dedupe will compress the data before writing the client backup.

Hi @Pradeep,

Thanks for your update.

Could you please provide little more details about below mentioned.

  1. System configuration details of Access & Index servers in O365 backup (want to take 500 mailbox backup)?
  2. We have hardware deduplication device, Please advise which option will use Dedup & Compression, either Commvault end or hardware end.
  3. Archiving feature will support O365?

Hi Anand,

Access Node requirements: https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/user_mailbox_and_journal_mailbox_access_nodes.html

Index Node requirements:

https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/hardware_recommendations_for_index_server.html

And yes, Archiving feature is supported with Exchange Mailbox agent as documented: https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/exchange_mailbox_agent_architecture_user_mailbox_and_journal_mailbox.html

If dedup is enabled on Hardware, then you dont need to dedupe commvault end. You can dedupe at commvault and send that to a DL that has HW dedupe enabled.
