Hello,

What is the Commvault recommendation for the RMAN compression setting? Consider we have backup to deduplicated disk. And compression is enabled on commvault side also. regards,

Pedro

Hi @PedroRocha

Thanks for reaching out, can you please review our “Oracle Performance Tuning” section in our documentation which covers all the scenarios on when and where to enable compression.

Please advise if this assists you with your query.

Thank you

Hello! Thanks for the answer.

I've seen that before.. but I do not see the recommendation when you don't use Oracle TDE. That doc covers when you do use TDE and apart from that, does not state what to do with RMAN compression in other scenarios. Can you help me?

Thank you for clarifying.

The recommendations I’ve received is as follows;

If you use RMAN compression, then you do not use dedupe and compression from CV. If you use the default oracle compression which is basic, then you use dedupe and compression from CV end side.

So in your case, I would enable the basic default oracle compression

Please advise if this assists you with your query.

Thank you
