Hi together,

currently we are trying to move operation from Commcell Console to Command Center.

In the case of a SQL-Server restore we discovered that it is not possible to restore the SQL system databases (model/master/msdb) with the Command Center.

In the Commvault Console we have the “Include System Databases” tick-box in the advanced restore options … but there are no advanced restore options in the Command Center.

There is an additional setting named “bEnableAdvancedRestoreOptionsMSSql… but this seems to serve a different purpose.

Do I miss something?

Could you try to provide the following permissions on the SQL client and see if that helps?

Out-of-place Recover

In Place Recover

System databases don't appear for restore from Command Center and that they must be done through advanced restore option from Commcell Console with 'include system databases' option during the browse.
 
In the Command Center, they are only available when restoring an entire instance. 
If needed, you would use instance-level recovery documented here: (Command Center)

we were trying the restore with an account of the master group. It seems to be no permission related issue.

thank you for you reply. Yes, the system databases are restored via an instance restore … but if you have a large instance, this will be no option.

I will stay with the Commcell Console.

Did you open a CMR for it? I'll also try to poke some people who I know within Commvault. The future is Command Center, so you should deliver this ability in there as well. 


Hi Onno, this would be a good idea, if I would have some more time …

There are missing so many features in the Command Center (check any advanced attribute ..).

Furthermore: The last 4 CMR that I made were closed after 6 months.


What kind of CMRs and were they closed with remark implemented or were they closed without proper follow-up? 


From Command Center perspective, when you go to the backup history of the SQL instance, click on the differential backup, browse that for recovery and you should see the system databases.


Just checked it what @Jos Meijer stated and it's also possible in case of a full. So I assume this workaround works for all types expect transaction log. Not sure if the restore actually works, but you can select only the system DBs.
