Dear Team,

Does anyone have experience with storeOnce ?

I plan to deploy Commvault Solution with HPE Store Catalyst

2 datacenters

2 HPE Store on each DC

Workload to backup are :

VMware, Oracle DB, SQL, SAP/Hana

I have no experience with HPE StoreOnce

I plan to create on each store

1 Store for VMware

1 Store for SQL

1 Store for SQLTransaction logs

1 Store for Oracle

1 Store for Oracle transaction logs

I can’t use dedup or compression as it is handled by the StoreOnce.

I will create A primary copy on the local corresponding store for each Workload

I will create a secondary copy to the remote correspnding store

Stores(disk libraries) are share between MA1 and MA11 for non secure zone

Stores(disk libraries) are share between MA2 and MA22 for secure zone

If a Media agent fail in one Site, the other one continue the backup.

attached a diagram of the architecture

Is it the right way ?

also, for databases, is it mandatory to have a dedicated store for Transaction Logs ?

Thanks for your help !

Yes, your overall design looks good where the primary copy goes to StoreOnce on site1 and the secondary copy for the same data goes to the other site.

Are you planning to failover to the second MA in the same site?

If you are planning to use the second MediaAgent to take up the backup load on first MediaAgent’s failure, both MediaAgents should be part of the Datapaths in the respective copies.

Are you looking to send the transaction logs to a different store for any specific reason?

Hello @ManojKVijayan,

Thank you for your answer.

Q.Are you planning to failover to the second MA in the same site?

  • Customer has not plan to failover in the same site (we did not do the design). I would have like to put on each Datacenter 2 media agent for the non secure zone and to other for the secure zone but for now it is not possible.

Q.If you are planning to use the second MediaAgent to take up the backup load on first MediaAgent’s failure, both MediaAgents should be part of the Datapaths in the respective copies

  • Yes I will do that

Q. Are you looking to send the transaction logs to a different store for any specific reason?

no specific reason, I just want to know if there is some best practices for databases  storage policies

The big difference with this architecture compared to those I  already have deployed is : all dedup, compression and encryption is handled by the Storeonce.

Also, If there is different kind of databases, Oracle/SQL and so on, Commvault and HPE recommend to create a dedicated Store for Oracle Database, another one for SAP/Hana for good deduplication.

Thanks again for you answer !
