Are there are any special considerations when doing a CS migration specifically to move older clients to another CS?

Hi @chrisknows

As a starter the following documentation will provide information on what is support from a migration matrix perspective: https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/5079_requirements_for_commcell_migration.html

If like you say the Commserves are on the same version this should be fully supported for v9 clients.

Hello @christopherlecky

Very Old OS like 2003 or 2008 should be migrated to newer OS before migrating it to new CS. Newer Commvault versions may not support the obsolete OS versions. As a thumb rule, do not migrate anything the OS vendors don't support (EOL/EOS). The effect is profound in old version of OS. Newer version like 2012 are yet to show any symptoms of incompatibility.

@Zubair Ahmed Sharief in a perfect world that would be an option but typically when dealing with systems this old the standard attitude is dont touch them.
They are often in such a state that the technical debt surrounding them is exactly why they are running EOL.

Usually there isn’t much value in fighting this kind of battle.
