Hello,

As shown below, we would like to implement the following solution:

  1. Snapshots on DC1 are taken in the Hot Tier of NetApp systems (where the Production data reside)
  2. Snapshots are then replicated using Snapmirror DR software to another NetApp system (AFF400 Cluster) located in the remote datacentre DC2
  3. Snapshots of DC1 are then replicated using Snapvault software to another NetApp system (FAS8300 Cluster) located in the same datacentre
  4. Snapshots of DC2 are then replicated using Snapvault software to another NetApp system (FAS8300 Cluster) located in the same datacentre

Question is concerning point 4: with Intellisnap can we manage the snapvault of “MIRRORED” snapshots?

Many thanks. Regards

You should find everything you need here:

https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/33739_netapp.html

Let me know if you have further questions, and we can see if anyone in the community cans hare their experience.

Hi @brucquat

With OCUM managing the Netapp side, Commvault can manage the snapshots and jobs when we go Primary Snap > Mirror Copy > Vaulted Copy.
nb: What we do not support with OCUM, is Primary Snap > Vaulted Copy > Mirror Copy. This is a cascading snap mirror and caused issues with data aging.

With Commvault managing everything (Open replication) we can also protect Primary Snap > Mirror Copy > Vaulted Copy.
WITH Open Replication, we can also support Cascading relationships without the issues related to data aging above.

Your design is by the books so should be no issues.

Hi,

Many thanks for your detailed answer.

The question came from a NetApp specialist. He said Commvault should confirm that we can take a Snapvault from a mirrored Volume aka Volume DR [and not from SVM (Storage Virtual Machine) DR].

Thanks for feedback.

Regards,

Lillo
