sudden increasing in quiescing warning issues; we upgraded Commserve to 11.22.17

Being an MSP; the troubleshooting approach I took with the customer is to ask them to try a manual quiesce in VMWARE and if it fails; call VMWARE support/system admin however for some customer manual quiescing works okay  although Commvault still failsbackup log show 5176 3ec 05/30 19:11:15 4179440 CVMWareInfo::CreateVMSnapshot() - Creating Snapshot of VM [] Guid [5034c19b-29d9-107a-f0ba-e063a3d1824d] Quiesce VM file system=[ON]5176 3ec 05/30 19:11:19 4179440 CVMWareInfo::CreateVMSnapshot() - Detected that VM [] snapshot [snapshot-22775] was not quiesced however the manual quiescing does not show a failure (Vcenter 6.0); the vss writers were fine on the server and there were no error logs during the time when snapshot occured in event logs. See the vmware logs attached herewith.Shall I raise this with Commvault support??

What does “Unable/failed to quiesce the guest file system during snapshot creation” mean, and how do I resolve it on a VMware backup?

I am a bit confused with what Microsoft website says about consistent backups; I thought application and File system consistent are same as both use VSS; and non-VSS backups are crash consistent   Application consistent The snapshot captures the virtual machine as a whole. It uses VSS writers to capture the content of the machine memory and any pending I/O operations. For Linux machines, you'll need to write custom pre or post scripts per app to capture the application state. You can get complete consistency for the virtual machine and all running applications. File system consistent If VSS fails on Windows, or the pre and post scripts fail on Linux, Azure Backup will still create a file-system-consistent snapshot. During a recovery, no corruption occurs within the machine. But installed applications need to do their own cleanup during startup to become consistent. Crash consistent This level of consistency typically occurs if the virtual machine is shut down at the time of the ba

I raised it wiht Commvault support “ As discussed on the remote session there was a change in FR22 where Commvault now performs another check to confirm if a VM has been quiesced during the snapshot creation, this check was not previously being performed before FR22 and once the snapshot with the quiese option enabled was created successfully we would mark the VM as quiesced.  Previously if the quiesce failed during snapshot creation in VMWare, the snapshot creation would fail and a new crash consistent snapshot operation would begin, this would then mean that this failure is sent to Commvault and we would mark the quiesce as failed. This was changed in VMware and if the quiesce fails the snapshot creation continues as a crash consistent snapshot rather then starting a new snapshot operation.

Aux copy total data to copy

thanks for that...now it appears that the original aux copy completed with errors; the next aux copy would it automatically copy the data which failed to copy on the original one or would I have to rerun the original aux copy?

Duplicate Client Computers

I understand the client name duplicates with _1 however bit confused about when the host name has a _1;  a customer migrated a VM from one cluster to another using a replication product; we were backing up both the clusters so it meant backup ran for both the VMs on old and new cluster; however now although we have 2 duplicate client names; the new host name has _1;  the client had SQL agent installed as well; the VM is in shutdown state on the old cluster and running on the new cluster; SQL backups are running however and showing against the old client; the VM backups are showing against the new client with _1 against the hostname. Is the merge command going to work here as both clients have the same name; also would the history for the powered on VM merged against the switched off VM as it is still showing up in the console and has SQL agent and backups

MA DDB backup job seem to be not pruning any data

this is now sorted by Commvault support; the issue was someone had ticked the option of “Enabled Managed Disk space for library” which was causing the jobs not to prune.

we have asked the customer to do vmdk restore and then browse the files in the meantime

just wondering if the browse option is doing the aux copy automatically..we tape out monthly syn fulls..and the sevrer customer trying to browse from was decomissioned last year; when I see the view media option against the job it is showing the data to be on the onsite MA and in the tape library  ...

Incident 210303-623 and 210303-623(this one is in open status) so what happens when a customer want to browse the files and folder from VM level tape backups and collection file and folder details is not selected as recommended by Commvault support as it is the faster way to backup the files; what is the flow of file and folder restore from tapes?“as live browse type recovery is not supported from tape”; collect file details is not selected.

I did try forcing this using the key however it still failed.  will review the logs further.

okay so I investigated it further; although the VSS writers were showing as okay; the VSS providers had an additional provider Acronis VSS sw provider and VSS errors on the event log 12292 during backup Checking with customer now if they have any other backup agent installed and shared the following article for them to review.  “Hello guitarfish,Thank you for posting this information in our forum.Did you check if this, after upgrading from Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 to Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5?Go to Start -> Run -> regedit.exe and press ENTER; Navigate to this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\VSS\Providers\ Check, if you can find at the left part entries below Providers.
