Intellinsnap NDMP Backup copy failing with error : Socket error

Commvault support had advised error is on the Netapp side“the error was that filer stopped data transfer, meaning error was on the filer side.”“DUMP: Error: DUMP IS ABORTED” Netapp support came back saying the backup app is issuing the stop command. FS System Archiving and Restore of all the stubs

thanks Damien I will check with Commvault support if I could get that tool. I think you are referring to the below mentioned option. Also, as the app size is 5TB customer needs to ensure the source location has enough free space in the directory structure where the stubs are located. They are moving away from archiving The share is SMB on a net app device and and commvault uses a windows proxy to run the archiving operation; hopefully I am not missing out anything before I trigger the restore. Once the restore is complete I will decommission the agent from the proxy and remove the sudo client ..thanks a lot for your help

SP Farm backup with 7 servers:DR only

Thanks for that; I will check what other servers hold the web-front end role; also because the original setup was > 1. File system backup for all the 7 servers > 2. SQL backup for SQL server however when we recovered these the search functionality did not work.With this new change Current setup of FS on all 7 servers plus SQL agent on SQL server as it is SP agent would be installed on the SP application server and WFE server: Sudo client will be created and configured to capture WFE data/IIS settings which is not captured by SP client on SP app server Default database client on SP App server to capture SP Farm data: If I do not select the SQL client in SP level backup confguration; my understanding is SQL backup would continue to capture the content databases through the current job; however if I choose the SQL server on this configuration; that backup for content databases will trigger when the SP ida is backed up So for disaster recovery : Restore all the servers via File

Sharepoint Farm Disaster recovery: Backup

As the existing servers have File system agents and SQL agent installed; when I create a sudo client (I am using Commvault Java console rather than the web based UI); no servers are listed here. Hyper V backup failed only for one VM

the other thing was as the backup had finished; I had selected Crash Consistent on VM backup; if I choose File System and application consistent; would it interfere with the agent level SQL backups that are configured? Like would it truncate the logs to databases with full recovery mode?

The reason for doing a VM level backup is to migrate the customer’s VM to a VMWARE plat-form; the customer had a file system agent and SQL agent backup however the recovery of File agent and then recovering SQL databases on top is pretty cumbersome; so doing a VM level backup should make the migration pretty easy. As far as VSS snapshots it concerned; thanks for the suggestion and I googled it; in hyper-v if the CSV does not have enough free space; this error will occur (found the following on the Internet); there is no way to redirect snapshots on CSV.“Ok I worked on the snapshot issue I had and fixed some sharable points. We're talking about: clustered hyperv, CSV, backing up VMs...1) the child partition snapshots is taken on the physical server, not onto VM1a) All CSVs involved by VM get the "redirect access"2) How much free space the physical server "see" on the csv is the point. also just wanted to get a clarity on the process of the VM level backup; I noticed that with HyperV v=backups a checkpoint gets created and then merged pretty quickly although backup is still progressing; also are the events logged on the active node with disks?

The snapshot process now works however the backup fails with error “The VSS shadow was lost while trying to read from disk [\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\CSV{8e02e5ba-7691-4a7c-b2b0-e56676fb9309}\logs\server-sql_logs.vhd] for virtual machine [server-sql] on Host [SERVER-CL2]. This may indicate that there is insufficient COW space for the IO activity on the volume.”the guest VM does have enough free space but as this is hyper-v cluster; however when I check the cluster manager; I notice disk at the hypervisor level is low on space

the customer has 3 hosts which are clustered using failover cluster (Failover cluster manager)the disks are presented to these hosts as Clustered Shared Volume Looking from the disks view on the Failover cluster manager; these disks show minimal free space The VM has which is eorring out after disabling quiescing has check-point location pointing to a CVFS volume which only has 80GB of free space the SQL server is is around 500 GB used (across all the disks) and has a total size of 1.2 TB apprxo disk attached to it. Could not locate the minimal free space requirements

OS disk is in IDE and rest of the other disks are on SCSCI Guest Os is Windows 2008 R2HyperV is windows 20212 R2 version 6.3.9600 “Are the other VMs that are working attached to the same datastores? Is there an iSCSI controller on the VM, any IDE disks?”Yes there us another VM (Windows 2008R2) disk configuration is similar OS disk IDE and data disks are SCSCI and the same location on Hyper-V server’s local disk. All these disks then seem to have mount points which then point to a separate disk when I check the disk mgmt of the hyper-v server

True NAS shares (NDMP and CIFS)

Thanks @Stuart Painter ; I managed to configure the backup for CIFS share; however; will have to deploy a Linux VM to backup NFS share. Unless there is a appliance commvault offers (similar to FREL for file recoveries).

The Commvault affected client report does not list the client; version installed on the client SP22-Hot-Fix 3910, SP22-Hot-Fix 3911, SP22-Hot-Fix 3911 it was installed on 14th Dec SP is 22.50; however when a customer runs the utility it is showing the following files : We have only installed the hotfixes , SP22-Hot-Fix 3911 which was done on Dec 14th as per update log however cant see a reference for hotfix 39120

How to show if my backups are encrypted

I had another question relating to Encryption because Commvault anyways stored data in its own Proprietary format so even if a person were to take a copy of data how would he/she would be able to make sense of the data unless you have access to the same Commserve database.

VM backup size is pretty large

Just a question which customer asked about this “Only question I’d have would be if files are deleted, do they continue to get backed up or does it clear out after some time? Eg say I had 10gb of Outlook PST files that I deleted to free up space on a hard drive, would this continue to get backed up in each backup?: I could have a 100gb disk and for arguments sake lets say its 100% full. Backup on Monday night takes full 100gb.Tuesday I then delete 10gb of PST files and replace them with different PST files.Is Tuesday night backup then 110GB? At which point would the nightly backup be 100GB? Although this might get into full vs incremental/differential I am guessing.So being a 30 day retention, if on day 1 backup is 100GB of data, then I delete 10GB and replace with 10GB of different files, I’d expect for 30 days it to have 110GB of backed up data.After 30 days would this 10GB that was deleted get cleared out of the backup cycle? “

Hi Mike,Is this “After conferring with MSFT, we stopped skipping the deleted files. Backups are bigger, but will always work during restores” specific to Commvault or any product using VADP. Also, when you mention recent; how recent; the backup size grew in September; although the August backups have worked fine. I can check if we installed any hotfix on Commvault recently. Also, we had Synthetic full backups configured every week; however; I triggered an active full and that actually reduced the backup size by 124GB.

okay this is the screenshot with the largest incremental size from backup history: however the wired thing is when I look into the details backup size does not add up to size of application although transfer time show over 392.97 GB of data transferanother backup set reflects large app size however this at least closely matches the VM backup size as well

We use the backup size to bill the customer basis the screenshot I had pasted before...the backup for the hot add went to 1tb from 600gb...we use the last synthetic full for the month...

Local MA RAID Died; taking both DDB and Index cache with it along with the data;

thanks; also I am cleaning up the old mount paths as those do not exist anymore; however it is compalning about mount path being used by DDB; although that DDB is sealed. Am I able to delete the sealed DDB refrence? Just to tidy things up. Just want library to point only to the new mount path

it was customer’s old commserve envrioment; it was swuitched off; just to recover from previous envrioment; they moved from inhouse to MSP

finally it got sorted; customer was able to login to commcell database via the SQL instance and found a user listed which worked….they do not have a tape library; so restored Commserve; setting up an MA and connecting the tape library….the funny thing is the Commsrve was a VM and it had happened few years back and I had requested them to add this VM to the backup...never received any confirmation...and I still went ahead and added the old VM in the backup...which we used this time as the orignal Commserve VM had been deleted….

Migration path to new Mediaagent for archived data

It is locally attached storage; local mount path for disk libraries. Mediaagent is a Physical Windows Server with internal SAS disk attached via a RAID controller. The reason for hardware refresh is the age of the Mediaagent (7 years old).
