Future of File Recovery Enabler for Linux FRE

Hi Bart,We are looking at other alternative distributions to continue to provide a FREL that is downstream from RHEL. So more to come a bit later.

Recreate IndexServer object for storage policy.

Hi,The fact that Synth Fulls are failing shows most likely something is wrong with Index DBs. IndexServer.log can show you more details on the Index Server but I suggest you log a support case so we can review.

So when I go to add a new client.  Im assumming Im treating each server as a client?Correct. Each of your Servers will be a Client for CV Commserve to protect. Based on the data you need to protect you will pick an agent and in this case WFS agent as you mentioned.

How to restore the Windows FS full data using incr backup

When you browse there is an option for time range. Simply pick Jan period or whatever you need to restore. That time period will include all those jobs that you mentioned.

Hi,When you browse you just need to go with Latest data option. This will restore latest cycle including Synth full and Inc jobs. So just one restore job will do it.

I don’t think we have 2019 in Market place. Generally speaking we do support 2019 though.In terms of VSA, a quick answer is: VSA proxy sends virtualization related APIs to AWS to create snapshot of each instance volumes. Then creates volumes from those snaps and attach them to the VSA proxy. Network firewall direction

Hi Anders,As Edd mentioned having a proxy based connection is the most secure way. Coming back to your question though it also depends where client is sitting. If client for example is exposed to external users\networks then yes having a connection coming from internal\CS to client is best practice. In case the client is exploited you don’t want to allow connection initiation from client to internal. If client is also internal then yeh don’t worry about direction.

CV 9 linux client backs up with dedup disabled, fails with dedup enabled

No problems! Then yeh definitely we need a FW rule between Client and ybackup2.Let me quickly explain the terminology in version 9 firewall (I know they are a bit confusing :)).Restricted means other end has access. Blocked means doesn’t have! Now if you have a network\firewall that allow traffic initiation in a certain direction only (let’s say from Client to MA) then we need a one way firewall rule. If firewall allows starting TCP session in both direction then a 2 way is fine. Using Blocked will create one way rule and using Restricted in both sides will create 2 way meaning both sides can start a session.Now if I remember V9 GUI (been ages ago hahaha) you just need to do these:From Client properties, Firewall tab, add ybackup2 with restricted. For Incoming port use 8600 (or another port that is allowed). Don’t worry about Outgoing tab. From ybackup2 properties, Firewall tab, add Linux Client with restricted. For Incoming port use 8600 (or another port that is allowed). Don’t worry

Hey Shawn,Check and see where is the DDB hosted. Once you find the media agent that is hosting this specific DDB then create a firewall rule between your Linux client and that Media agent. This should help with network connectivity. From your scenario I believe DDB is not hosted on the same MA that backup goes.Let us know if you need help configuring firewall rules.Good Luck!

Get VM snapshot size from backup jobs

Hi CLiX,VM snapshots are small files when they get created and will grow as writes are made to the VM's disk files. During a backup, snapshot gets created ad IO will be redirected to the snapshot. Now Commvault will go and read the original disk for the backup. Depending on the IO on the VM and how long backup takes snapshot size may vary each time.Don’t think we have a built-in report on snapshot size.

With the capacity part if you mean Licensing then yeh Application size will be FULL. But it's about storage then dedup will help here as long as blocks are not changed.

Hi Bill,The job will be FULL on the new VCenter as GUIDS won’t match anymore. In terms of deduplication however system should only backup whatever is changed.

Windows Firewall Rules

@Christian Kubik yes, I've seen that too. I know it may tunnelling rules be too much to set up if you are a single customer but when your job is to configure several customers over a year, it's adds up to a fair bit configuration time that honestly should have a pre built topology enabled that inlcudes this nice setting documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=95277.htm in one click. I think the main reason we don’t add those extra tunnels in topologies by default is scalability. In a large environment having hundreds of Clients, multiplying all those connections by 3 or 4 may kill the mediaagent causing TCP stack buffering issues.

Stubb Recall Not Working

Hi Iggy,Based on logs and also the fact you can restore files out of place, Index looks good here. I think it should be the driver itself and now that you have AV exclusion in place let’s try to debug further using below key on the client and see what logs give us:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CommVault Systems\Galaxy\Instance001\EventManager\DMService_Debuglevel   Set the value to 9. Then recycle services, try a new recall to see what we can get in Clmgrs.Good Luck!

VSA Backup job failure alert not showing failed VM name in mail body

Performance improvement with "Optimized For Concurrent LAN Backups" option and data port usage

Agree on the multi tunneling feature and in our tests we could see the most benefit will be seen in proxy-based scenarios rather than direct connections. In a production environment(Clients->Proxy->MA) increasing the tunnels to 4 increased the performance just more than 3 times!
