Allow data aging on deactivated agent/client without deleting subclient/client?

Retention consists of cycles and days, cycles being the time between full backups.If you’re not backing up the machines, you won’t hit cycles so the data remains.Running the backups will include fulls which will meet cycles and data will age as expected.You can run the Data Retention Forecast and Compliance report to show why jobs are being retained.

What is the proper way to retain data for a laptop that will be re-issued?

I’m not following this part, ‘He told me that technically we were violating our license count because we were keeping data for clients that were not being counted against our total available licenses, and this was a “bug” in the version we were on and would be remedied in future releases (i.e. releasing the license would make the client unavailable for future restores).’You can install a restore only client if the machine was still available and you can restore out of place. to the local drive of another machine with the corresponding agent installed or even use that machine as a proxy to restore to a UNC path. Neither option requires a license.

Help about CommCell update

There is no actual installation on the Vcenter itself. That is a pseudo client that controls the proxies that do the work, the pseudo client is just a hub to bring it all together. This is why the update shows as not applicable.

Remove Backup Jobs

You can delete individual jobs at the storage policy levels. Choose the copy under storage policy copy and then delete the individual jobs.

Creating pseudo-client for RHEV (http vs https)

Kamil, With 24.7 installed, that would include hotfix 3030 (part of 24.2). If this is also installed on the proxy\access nodes for RHEV, when the initial denial happens on port 80 (http) a certificate should be generated either way and retried on port 443 (https). If 24.7 is on the proxies and we’re not seeing this behavior, please open a support incident for review.

NAS CIFS share backup access nodes usage

I think the default is 10, but it’s also dependent on network\machine performance as I’ve seen calls where running to many access nodes will overload the backup operation and cause the backup to be slower then it will run with less nodes at once. Also the Vcenter and\or proxy isn’t being included in the backup? If you snapshot those as part of the job and you could see all kinds of odd problems.

Navigate to Client Computers > virtualization_client > Virtual Server. Right-click VMware and select Properties. If you change the retention period, it doesn’t lock in until data aging runs. I would suggest first running the data aging forecast report to verify the changes being made.

What is the best method to restore files from a guest VM protected by VMware backups?

A file level restore from a Virtual Server backup will restore from block to file level. Since the backup does not backup the file but the blocks they are included in, the restore brings the block back and then pull the files from the blocks. If the file is spread out across 10 blocks., the restore has to first grab each one of those blocks out of the backed up chunks. It then needs to restore each block into a holding location and once it has all the blocks it can reconstruct the file and then place it to the restore location. 1) Perform a live browse of the data as this will use less space on the proxy building the data, but will still have performance issues for large restores.2) Restore the VMDK the out place and attach to a VM. Copy the files you need then discard the disk.3) Choose less files to restore at the same time.Even if you were looking to restore just 1 file, it maybe spread across 10 blocks. The restore has to first grab each one of those blocks out of the backed up chu

CommVault is using VMware’s VDDK to run the backups. These are VMware requirements, which is why CommVault, Veritas, Veem, etc all say the same thing.If you need to use a virtual machine, then HotAdd would be the available option. Both physical and virtual can use NBD, but that would typically be the slowest option as it would be over the network.
