Newbie Alert! Hello Everyone I am new to Commvault I took over an environment which has more than 200 storage policies. These policies were created as a result of plans created using command center. We have more than 2000 VMs and 200+ filesystem clients and Databases. I was wondering how should I approach the cleanup. Is it a good idea to use plans for larger environments, because as a result of single plan there are multiple configurations created automatically. Thank You
Any advice to install a commserve on a linux host? We checked this article https://documentation.commvault.com/11.26/expert/132365_commserve_server_system_requirements_linux.html and installed all packets and SW.We have tested to install on linux 8.4, 8.3 and 7.7 and the option to create a new commcell or install commserve never appears. We have also tested with version 11.25 and 11.26.
Hi guys! I’m completely new to REST API.I just downloaded the Postman CommVault Rest API Workspace and now I’m trying to start with the basic: authentication. But let’s get one step back to the Swagger UI. Just to exclude any wrong configuration inside Postman. I created a new test user inside the CommCell. This user is member of “master” group, so permissions should not be a problem. If I visit the Swagger UI (https://<webserver>/webconsole/sandbox/apiexplorer) and try the POST Login with this test user I get the message: errLogMessage": "Username/Password are incorrect"Well I’m pretty sure the username and the password is correct. I also tried to encode the password with Base64, but get the same error message. Other users also didn’t work. Also I can see a “Authorize” button on the top right corner. When I click on this button I can provide a Authtoken. But where I get this from? Obviously I’m doing something wrong here. Please tell me what.

I am looking for a way to automatically perform a sample of VM restores on daily\weekly basis from the most current backups from them. Long story short, I ran into a data integrity issue on one of my libraries and had no idea. I.E. VM Baselines were referencing a chunk on the library that did not exist. Therefore, any restores that referenced that baseline kept failing. I have my backups set to full instead of synthetic full which future backups never indicated a backup failure. Since this incident, I would like to start routinely validating that VM restores actually work. Plus this was on a CV Ransomware webinar slide earlier this month about validation😊. It does not look like this can be done natively within Commcell. Or can it? It looks like the road to go down is the use of the Commvault PowerShell module and calling upon APIs. Does anyone perform this kind of validation today? How do you accomplish this?
Commvault has some white papers and even a Hands on Lab regarding Ransomware and using Air Gap as a layer of protection. There are also YouTube videos on the subject. There is no official Commvault documentation regarding the subject. Is this Air Gap intended for companies with public facing servers to utilize a DMZ proxy to copy data and configurations inside a firewall? Should this be used within a private network?

Hello Everyone We run a frequent patching schedule and we are asked to make sure that we have latest backups available for those servers. These servers belong to multiple subclients and we are at the moment manually triggering the incremental backups for those subclients and this takes time as we have to initiate the backup of whole subclient even if only one VM is being patched out of those lets say 20 VMs.What is the best way to approach this without moving the VM out of the subclient.? Or is it possible to trigger incremental backups for selective VMs inside a subclient. We are at SP20. Thank You

But isn’t clear what trigger is to replicate data ??If we just add a small file at source couple of 100 KB the replication is not happening in the next following minutes !?So was what will trigger the replication ?Thank you

Hi,I have configured SAML authentication on the Command center and an ADFS server for a domain.Everything works but there is one small thing i don’t get to work.If i logon and enter the username the redirect to the ADFS servers works but, i need to enter the username a second time. Is there an option to send the username with the SAML redirect?
Hi, We recently had a customer who tried to connect kubernetes with commvault while using rancher.Everything was configurated and implemented correctly, but the authentication of the account used failed and we cannot seem to find why.We double checked the permissions, groups and authentication token of the user. Everything should be working.What could cause this problem?

It also provides a foundation for new service models, including Backup as a Service (BaaS).This customer has a couple of commcells, but i’m wondering what this feature is excactly, is it GRC or multi-tenancy? I’ve been discussing it with others in the office and we’re not 100% sure.
Hello,I need for a automation project get the last successful backup job of a subclient. I found last job of a client, but when we have SQL server with some instances the list of jobs are very long and exceed the limit 10000 as the list is not from newest to oldest, so I need all jobs to find the last JOB number. Any ID how I can get simply the last jobid of subclient?we have commcell with 11.20.55 running thanks for any help.regards Juergen

Ever since Command Center was equipped with client side caching enhancements we occasionally get customers on the phone who ask us if there is something wrong with the backup environment, because they are missing client computers in Command Center. Even while running the latest maintenance release for FR11.21. When we logon to Command Center as platform admins we do see the client computer(s) in question, so we just ask the customer to perform a CTRL-F5 hard refresh of the client-side cache. Checking the server side log (CVEntityCache) reveals no errors whatsoever.Now I hope to hear from other Vaulters if they have experienced this same issue and at what frequency. Reason for asking is that it "hard/impossible” to reproduce and if the customers knows the CTRL-F5 trick than next time they will most likely not call you anymore because they know the trick, but this of course does not fix the real issue.
Is there any way to provide filters for Alerts and Events that are forwarded to syslog? I’d like to at least be able to filter out Information events to eliminate noise to syslog which is then uploaded into splunk (at least for our company.
Can i exclude certain databases (tempdb, model etc.) on a plan/policy/server group level.The goal is to group servers which uses SAP Sybase database instances, and exclude databases which is not used.(tempdb, model etc.)Otherwise I have to edit each subclient, and exclude those databases, on each server. Hi I have this Commvault Live Sync setup, that have been setup for some years back. And recently I have been testing this setup using “Test failover” function, and this test failed. And because this setup has been done for many years back, and I do not know, how this Live Sync setup was done, I would like to remove this old Commvault Live Sync setup.But my question is:Is there any procedure on how to remove this old Commvault Live Sync setup? We have an active program to discourage the use of the CommCell console. Reason is that it is not supported in combination with SAML and reseller mode and additionally we want to move everyone over to Command Center. This is a big change and people are pretty bad accepting change so it is not always easy and they use a lot of features…… I will not move towards a discussion around feature adoption in Command Center because I do not want a like-4-like move from the CommCell console to the Command Center but I do miss something related to the ability to perform data refreshes and/or scheduled restores to validate the ability to recover data.Customers need to proof that they are able to recover data for auditing purposes. Additionally they also use backup/restore to perform data refreshes for testing purposes and I currently have no idea how to accomplish this without the CommCell console. Only way I would know is to script it through the API but to me these use-cases are fundamentally rel
Is it possible to override default vCenter FREL for guest file restore in Command Center? It seems to be Commcell Console-only option.Also, it would be great if we could add FREL to a VM Group (same as we can add Access Nodes).Using single/default FREL in multiple-cluster vCenter can be technically impossible. We run at the moment a lot of tests with Commserve on Linux and we think it is a very good solution but i want to know what you thinking about ! so may you can tell me your experience and feeling about this new feature!
