Hi Commvaulters, Can someone advise me with the needed network ports to be open in order to perform an aux copy between 2 MAs.We installed a new MA on a remote site, and we want to open only the needed ports between it and the CS (For communication) and between it and the MAs located on the main site.Please to note that we are running CV version 11.24, I know that the main ports are 8400 for communication and 8403 for data transfer.Is there any other once that needs to be opened ? We want to minimize port opening in order to fully secure the remote MA. Regards.

When searching into the client, I didn’t find the CVNRDS executable and process active on the server. I’m sure this process is not part of the FS agent or something is missing from our configuration here.I’ve looked into Commvault documentation and didn’t see any information. Hi,i have a question about the implementation of some VSA proxy in hotadd mode only on vmware VSAN.it is really needed to open network port 902 between VSA proxy and ESX host ? can we only open port 902 between Vcenter / media agent /vsa ?in my undestanding the port 902 is only use in NBD/NBDSSL mode as a fallback mode when other transport mode are not available.regards,Christophe
For some reason, there’s a setting that I cannot locate to disable Automatic Maintenance Release Updates. I know this happens because when I login I get an Information dialog box that says, “Commserve is at version (11.28.56) and Commcell console is running on version (11.28.44). You must install the latest updates on this client to use it effectively.” Does anybody know where this is located?
I manage a new, hardened CV11.20 environment with 2 physical Windows MediaAgents (MAs) running Windows 2019 LTSC with the CommServe and VADP proxies as VMs.The backupset and default subclient under each MA are greyed out and I don’t have the option to create a new subclient, so I expect this behaviour is as designed. I’ve used CV for 13 years and have previously protected the C: drive, app drive and system state as a backup job with no issues (and special filters for log dir etc.).DDB backups run reliably on the MA. Under the default subclient on the control tab Backup is enabled and I’m performing all changes as a member of the master group.When I try to run a backup the only option is a synthetic full where I get the error "Failed to run task. no associations exist" - obviously since a backup has never run. But the options to take a full/incremental/differential backup don’t exist.There is no list of jobs under backup history for the default subclient.I have ransomware protection en

Does it mean All Commvault servers, i.e., Commserve, Media Agents, VSA. It should be more precise Port 8403 corresponds to “All data and control traffic”. I remember that in the past, we had to open Commvault data ports in the range 8600-8650. Does it mean that now only one port is required for all types of backups? I had a virtual server that Commvault has been backing up for awhile now disappear. Is there any way to track down how this happened or who would have done it? I have run the Deleted Virtual Machines report and it doesn’t show up on the list.

Hello All, We have recently observed that as soon as the Hyper-V VSA backups were triggering the hosts were randomly rebooting. While going through the windows event logs, we observed there were multiple error messages getting logged during the backup window: An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk14\DR385 during a paging operation. The shadow copies of volume \\?\Volume{20628861-0000-0000-0000-100000000000} were aborted during detection because a critical control file could not be opened. Filter Manager failed to attach to volume '\Device\HarddiskVolume26'. This volume will be unavailable for filtering until a reboot. The final status was 0xC03A001C. The IO operation at logical block address 0x800 for Disk 8 (PDO name: \Device\000000d2) was retried. The Volumes and Harddisk drives that were reported in these logs were not local to the hosts, these were the VHDX files being mounted during backups. Automount on these hosts was enabled. Hi Guys, I am creating the RHEV pseudo-client with the Customer.We have noticed that during creating RHEV pseudo-client, Commvault uses port 80 (http) to comunicate with RHEV Manager. Port 80 (http) is blocked by the firewall. They use only https (port 443) in the environment due to some safety restrictions. Is any way to force Commvault (VSA) to use port 443 during creating RHEV pseudo-client? Rgds,Kamil
hey I’m new to commvault administration I’m m taking over and have not yet had much formal training on the services yet. My question is this I’ve got a unix server that is not talking to my commvault server i can pin and I know the media agent is running. It gives me Communication error when executing remote command arguments [-j 930739 -a 2:42 -t 2 -d ] will attempt a restart what is the best way to approach fixing the communication issue here as i’ve not been able to resolve it. with my own endeavors. For all clients in Classic Network, no issue in performing the backup job.For VPN Network,Communication works well between CS/MA and client using NAT IP.A client is installed by push install from CS.8400~8403 ports are opened mutually between CS/MA and a client in VPN Network. (cvping)We can browse the content on a client in VPN so can create a new subclient. CS/MA use the IP address 100.67.1.93 as a client IP instead of 10.67.1.93 for connection.A client in VPN uses IP address 169.254.84.181/180 as CS/MA IP instead of 10.x.x.x.This is an extraordinary network configuration. But backup job is not working well. It showed this error message once we performed backup job in person. I’m not sure if this config is supported or not.Could you give me any advice?Thanks.

Around 150 gb per hour with 5 readers.Data store is on NetApp and VSA/Media agent is VM.It is currently using NBD transport mode.Can hotadd or another transport mode be used and will that be faster? Hi, Today, when I tried to restore a whole VM from a tape backup that is 1 month old, it gave me the below message, asking for a missing tape for index restore to browse So, I loaded the tape 66L8, in fact, I loaded all the tapes needed for this backup job. As you can see from the below screenshot, all the tapes needed for this backup job are in the tape library now. But, it doesn’t make any difference. The restore is still giving me the same message, i.e. asking for the same missing tape (which has been loaded in the tape library) for index restore to browse So, I’m wondering if anyone can tell me what’s still missing here for this restore job ? Or I actually need to hit the “Restore Index” button ? Sorry if I asked a stupid question as this is the first time I need to do a VM restore from tapes. Thanks very much, Kelvin
Hello,When Commvault is licensed using “Per VM” model it is allowed to install Commvault backup agents (MS SQL, Oracle, Filesystem,..) inside VMs, to protect data on those VMs, in this case vOI license is used.In some cases it makes no sense to backup those VMs using VSA agent if it is backed up by application specific agent, in another cases it is not possible, for example VMs with physical RDM disks.Question: Is it allowed from licensing perspective to backup VMs using only agent inside VM, without VSA backup, will it comply with “Per VM” licensing model?Br,Andrejs
