Move Sub-Client from old vCentre client to New vCentre client

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

We are retiring a vcentre and associated hosts and would very much like to “migrate” sub-clients from the old vcentre to the new vcentre it would be highly desirable to have the “jobs” move also so that we retain a history in a contiguous manner.

The link above is what you are looking for.

Basically, if it’s a quick flip to the new Vcenter, you only need to change the VMware name or iP in the VMware properties where you set the username and password.

If it’s a longer migration, it’s a side-by-side configuration where you have to set up a new Vcenter.

In either case make sure 443 is open from proxy to vcenter and 902 from proxy to esx host(s).

@Aplynx this doesn’t work for me because the old and new vcentre servers are running live and guests exist in old or new.  I want to migrate guests in a piecemeal fashion.  This method only works if I move all guests from old to new in a big bang.

I don’t believe there’s a canned tool for migrating the subclient configurations.
The old jobs can be kept on the original Virtualization Client while they age off.

Thanks,
Scott

I stand corrected, very nice!  Clone subclients as you move VMs between vCenters and disable the source subclients to retain the job history for historical restores.

Thanks,
