Hello,

When Commvault is licensed using “Per VM” model it is allowed to install Commvault backup agents (MS SQL, Oracle, Filesystem,..) inside VMs, to protect data on those VMs, in this case vOI license is used.

In some cases it makes no sense to backup those VMs using VSA agent if it is backed up by application specific agent, in another cases it is not possible, for example VMs with physical RDM disks.

Question: Is it allowed from licensing perspective to backup VMs using only agent inside VM, without VSA  backup, will it comply with “Per VM” licensing model?

Br,
Andrejs

Probably a good conversation to have with your account rep to see what options you have.

@AndresL agree that you should talk with your account rep/license provider. In my experience though, yes as long as a server/client is discovered as a VM, even if the VM is not being backed up, then you can install agents on the VM and use the per VM license.
