Can SharePoint Online be backed up to an on-premise Commvault environment or can it only be backed up to Azure Storage?

Hello
Yes you can backup any Office 365 app to a on-prem media agent and/or library without issues or any combination of azure/onprem storage. There are no restrictions.
We have various customers that backup O365 data (Sharepoint/Exchange/Team, etc) to only onprem storage without issues.
