Hi team,

Trying to undesatnd, how commvault uploads the job metadata.

Came across an error “Unable to upload job metadata to the remote file cache” and the client is trying to connect to the failover commvault server. Is the metadata upload location configured automatically or we have an option to point to any specific commvault server?

Thanks in advance !

Commvault uploads job metadata to the Remote File Cache (RFC), which is typically located on the CommServe or a designated MediaAgent. Here’s how it works and what you can check:

1. How Job Metadata Upload Works

  • When a job runs, Commvault generates metadata related to it (such as job details, indexing, and deduplication information).
  • This metadata is uploaded to the Remote File Cache, which helps with failover and quick recovery.
  • If a client is unable to upload metadata to the primary Commvault server, it may attempt to connect to a failover Commvault server.

you can manually configure where the metadata is uploaded:

  • Go to CommCell Console → Control Panel → Job Management.
  • Check Remote File Cache settings under Media Management.
  • If needed, assign a specific MediaAgent or CommServe for metadata storage.

Thanks for explaining.

I did check the steps mentioned to configure manually, however couldn't find Remote File Cache settings under Job management

I checked the media management option which is there under storage but couldn't find a setting for RFC there as well.

Hi team, any other suggestions on what I can check? TIA
