Forum|alt.badge.img+6

Hi All,

- Commserve with MA connect via hypervisor VSA VM backup VM1
- subclient content with VM1 and crash consistent backup, software compression select on client and deduplication generate signature select on client

refer above setting, may we know as below

- if VM1 without commvault agent, which one would compression? client or VSA?

- if VM1 with commvault agent , which one would compression? client or VSA?
- if VM1 without commvault agent, which one would generate deduplication signature? client or VSA?

- if VM1 with commvault agent, which one would generate deduplication signature? client or VSA?
- we assume VSA execute all, is correct? may we know more detail if client execute and without commvault agent?

Best regards

Hello @Chinchilla
In the case you are doing a file system agent level backup then client side dedup and compression will be done on the client its self.

With the VSA agent, Client side dedup refers to the proxy server as the client.

Hope this helps answer your questions.

Kind regards

Hello @Chinchilla

When we talk about Client or MA side compression or Deduplication in the context of VSA we are talking about Proxy side.
The VSA agent is going to run and collect all required data and pass it to the listed proxy server, from there the proxy server will then compress and deduplicate the data. None of that work is done on the VM its self.
