Question

HSX OS upgrade from 7.9 to 8.9 with sp32

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

we are trying to do OS upgrade the HSX from the existing 7.9 to 8.9 to be able to add additional new nodes (HSX ISO 3.2312)

we tried to upgrade the OS using the Command center and CLI both showing upgrade completes successfully however the OS version is still 7.9

i used the below reference for the OS upgrade operation.

https://documentation.commvault.com/2024/expert/installing_operating_system_updates_on_hyperscale_x_reference_architecture.html

Hi @Nawras Haddadeen

Upgrade from RHEL to Rocky has a different procedure. I would suggest to connect with the Account Team who can work internally on this.

When will the process to upgrade HyperScale X 2.x to 3.x be made available?

Forum|alt.badge.img

Considering commvault documentaiton on adding nodes states “You must upgrade 2.x nodes to 3.x version at some point prior to June 30th, 2025.” it would be really useful to have this process available asap considering we are rapidly approaching only a year left to perform this task and I suspect it’s non trivial and will cause interruption to service - especially as doing upgrades to the OS on HSX node (without hedvig update) already requires taking the whole cluster offline.

I think you need to refresh the cluster node by node

Refreshing HyperScale X Reference Architecture Nodes (commvault.com)

before adding 3.x nodes, a minimum version of 2.2312 is required on existing nodes.

@all, please correct me, if I’m wrong

@johanningk No need to refresh the nodes.

We should have the process for migration available soon.

@R Anwar Do we have an update on the 2.x to 3.x upgrade procedures?  Also, do you know if there’s a roadmap for support on Rocky 8.10 in the near future?

Hi @Genny

I don’t see the exact procedure for migration to Rocky. I will need more time to find this.

We will have a new Platform release in Sep which updates to Rocky 8.10.

@R Anwar I’m still not seeing docs for 2023E.  My understanding from Products is that the migration procedures would be supported for both 11.32 and 11.36.

Hi @Genny
Yes, it will work for both SP 32 & 36. ISO is available for both.
