Imagine asking an AI assistant, “Back up my Docusign documents” — and watching it just happen, securely, with full audit trails and policy enforcement.
That’s the promise of Conversational Resilience, a new capability in the Commvault Cloud platform announced at SHIFT that lets you manage and protect enterprise data through simple, natural-language interactions with AI assistants like ChatGPT Enterprise or Claude by Anthropic - all governed by Commvault’s MCP server.
Whether you’re a database admin, app owner, or part of a DevOps team, you will be able to perform resilience operations directly in your AI workspace — while your data protection teams maintain centralized governance and compliance in Commvault Cloud.
What’s Powering It: The MCP Server
Behind the scenes is the Commvault Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server — the secure middleware that connects AI assistants to Commvault Cloud APIs.
Every conversational command — from “recover last night’s backup” to “create a new protection policy for finance data” — is authenticated, executed, and logged for governance and compliance.
The best part? It’s open source! Click here to explore it on GitHub.

How It Works in Action
Here’s a quick example from our SHIFT 2025 demo:
• A user tells Claude to “back up Docusign data.”
• The assistant checks available backup plans and asks which one to use.
• Once confirmed, Claude schedules and initiates the job.
• The MCP Server manages authentication, executes the API call, and logs every detail — no manual scripting required.

Why It Matters
Conversational Resilience bridges the gap between enterprise-grade data protection and the simplicity of everyday language.
• Simplicity: No more jumping between consoles or remembering complex commands.
• Speed: Natural-language actions happen instantly and accurately.
• Trust: Every action is fully governed, logged, and policy-aligned.
What’s Next: Agentic Workflows and Beyond
This is just the beginning. The Commvault Cloud team is extending MCP to enable agentic operations — where AI can act safely and autonomously within defined policy boundaries. In this framework, AI assistants will not only execute commands but also anticipate needs, recommend actions, and coordinate across systems like ServiceNow and Microsoft Copilot.
Imagine your AI assistant proactively checking recovery health or suggesting protection for new workloads. That’s the next evolution of Conversational Resilience — and it’s being built on the open-source MCP framework today.
