What’s happening with Metallic?

On November 8th, Metallic, Commvault’s game-changing SaaS-delivered data protection portfolio, is becoming part of the Commvault Cloud. By merging Metallic and Commvault technologies into one platform, we can deliver a modern experience that advances how our customers protect their data – with even more flexibility of choice.

What is Commvault Cloud?

Commvault Cloud is Commvault’s unified cyber resilience platform. Leveraging a common foundation and framework, the Commvault Cloud offers the flexibility to consume Commvault services in the cloud, as software on-prem, or as an integrated appliance through a single platform.

Why now?

As cyberattacks and data risks mount, unifying Commvault and Metallic technologies in a single platform unlocks new synergies and advancements that benefit how our customer base secures and recovers hybrid cloud data against emerging threats.

Who is Commvault?

For over two and a half decades, Commvault has been delivering world-class data protection solutions. Regarded as a perennial leader by industry analysts and experts, Commvault offers proven data security and cyber recovery capabilities in multiple, flexible consumption models.

Did Commvault acquire Metallic?

No. Commvault built Metallic! Since its inception in 2019, the entire Metallic portfolio has always been managed and supported by the Commvault team.

How does Commvault Cloud benefit Metallic users?

With Commvault Cloud, customers get even faster innovation, automation, and performance. While Metallic users will still enjoy the same SaaS-delivered backup they’ve come to know and love, the Commvault Cloud paves the way for even more cloud-delivered offerings such as advancements in cloud-based disaster recovery, cyber security, artificial intelligence, and more.

What is Metallic AI?

While our Metallic backup offerings will be consolidated into the Commvault Cloud, Metallic AI will serve as the engine behind the platform. From automation and machine learning to advanced AI, Metallic AI brings greater performance and efficiency to every aspect of the Commvault Cloud. Metallic AI will also operate as a powerful integration layer for ecosystem partners, enabling developers to create robust, innovative services that continuously optimize Commvault Cloud, and deliver greater value to customers.

Will this impact my existing subscription?

No. While Metallic is now part of the Commvault Cloud, this change does not impact existing subscriptions, pricing, terms, or support SLAs.

What will happen to my existing capabilities?

While minor UI changes and in-app branding will begin this December, Metallic users should anticipate no alterations or major changes to their existing workflows or capabilities at this time.

Will I need to migrate my existing environment?

No migration is needed and there will be no impact on existing backups, current policies/plans, or their performance.

Does this impact my renewal?

No. There will be no impact to renewal dates or subscription terms.

How will this impact future product releases?

There will be no change to our release frequency. Metallic customers will still benefit from a SaaS consumption model, frequent product releases, and a transparent subscription model.

Does my existing point of contact change?

No. For customers who currently have a dedicated Customer Success Representative or Account Manager, there are no changes to your existing point of contact.

Where do I go for support and other resources?

While we’ll begin transitioning our Metallic.io web property to the Commvault.com website, existing documentation, support, and in-app links will remain unchanged. Please continue to access these resources using the following:

For additional questions or concerns, please reach out to your dedicated Customer Success Representative or success@metallic.io.

Can’t wait to see more Commvault like features on-boarded!

Has anyone received Commvault Metallic renewal pricing?  Their biggest change is dropping their so called UNLIMITED storage for Office 365 to 50GB per user.  If you’re over which most companies should be as that backs up e-mail, OneDrive, SharePoint Online, MS Teams data you will need to purchase CAPACITY addon.

Thoughts from the community on this?

I was exploring the topic some time ago, the pricing model was changed more than 6 months ago and now it’s more similar to the competitors. Previously there was only single option now, you have Standard Package and Enterprise Packages possible. O365 Licensing (metallic.io)

It’s 50 GB per user, but at the end you can spread total GB/TB across all users. So, if you go for 1000 users you will get 1000 x 50 GB = 50 000 GB = 50 TB. Isn’t this enough?

Hi Ricky

Can I suggest to arrange a call with your Customer Success Manager. Your CSM can arrange to bring a Technical Success Manager to the call and we can look at your configuration to see if there is anything that can be changed to reduce your capacity footprint.
