Hello
I have a doubt:
I have to add a MA server (RX2540 M5) to Commvault, the best way to add is by Commvault(CommCell) or do I do it through the Commvault software on the machine(rx2540)?

So, do I have to create the MA database on the server or not?

So, from this image, you talk about the MediaAgent database, and not the Commserve database.

Just to be 100% sure, you Commserve role is held by a different server than your MediaAgent : correct ?

Also, next question : do you want to add MediaAgents for a brand new storage policy, or add mediagents to an existing set of MediaAgents and storage policy -gridstor ?

Although in almost any case, I would recommend you to install them ‘manually’ by RDP (windows) or SSH (linux).

Hi @Fernando Souza

There is no right or wrong way, it’s a personal preference.

Installation methods are here: https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11_sp20/article?p=1969.htm

E.G. If you want to push from the console, follow these instructions: https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11_sp20/article?p=1977.htm

If you want to install locally, refer to: https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11_sp20/article?p=2005.htm

Hopefully this helps,

Thanks,

Chris

Hi @Fernando Souza ,

I prefer to deploy it manually, this allows me to make sure that all the install steps have been performed properly : it’s a bit faster for troubleshooting, if needed.

What do you mean by Database ? The deduplication database ? Or the Commserve database, meaning you want to perform a hardware refresh of some existing Commserve that also is a Media Agent ?

Maybe Mike is aware of your environment and knows, but from this reading, I can’t tell  Can you detail a bit more please ?

Hello @Laurent

I'm referring to the Media Agent Server database.

@Laurent

Yes, i added MA by CommServ, not by server, and create the storage polices, DDBs, Disk library, Mount Paths, and did replication and made changes.

The server is MS Windows

Many thanks.
