Applying UNIX permissions via Command Center

For existing clients on where you push out application/database agents afterwards you most of the time have to run the cvpkgchg command to replace the permissions. In case of a push installation via the CommCell console you have a possibility to enable to option "Override Unix Group And Permissions”.

This checkbox is not present in Command Center (https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/127715_adding_database_server_for_sybase.html). Does this mean that it will do it automatically? My assumption is that it only works for new push installation not for scenarios in where client the client computer is already equipped with a restore-only client.

You’re right, If you are installing from Command Center DB solution on an existing restore only client, this doesn’t override the existing permissions.

I’ve raised a CMR(327449) to myself on your behalf. We will address this soon.

@Sunil that satisfies my suspicion…… can you please make sure that the CMR is added to our company so I can track the progress from the cloud portal. to be frank I'm  really disappointed this was not sorted once it was ported from Java → Command Center. now customers still need to run cvpkgchg to get things working correctly. please make sure this is also covered from all angles e.g. to take into account all applicable agent types.

Sure. Can you share the CCID, I need a CCID to register the CMR to show up on your dashboard.

 

Also, this should be the case when adding DB packages on an existing installation. Fresh installation of DBs should work fine.

I will send the CCID in a DM. In regards to the remark: yes I understand this will not be the case for fresh installation but those are full client installation executed via a push installation. In the MSP world this will never be possible so clients are provisioned using an image with a generic or specific restore-only client agent installed so they are able to communicate.
