IntelliSnap failed on Azure Premium SSD V2 with below error,  incremental snapshots is still preview status, any chance to create full snapshot for Azure disk?

20164 5584  04/10 06:59:07 182052 CreateManagedDiskSnapshot() - Failed to create Incremental Snapshot for disk ivaz-wpc-002_DataDisk3]. Attempting normal snapshot...
20164 5584  04/10 06:59:07 182052 CreateManagedDiskSnapshot() - Exception tSystem.AggregateException: One or more errors occurred. ---> Microsoft.Rest.Azure.CloudException: Only incremental snapshots are supported for disks of Sku PremiumV2_LRS.

IntelliSnap requires full snapshots, traditionally. It seems like the framework will not work with Premium V2 as only incremental snapshot types are supported - meaning we cannot capture all the data in a snapshot.

I think we need more details on this - I don’t see anyone that has encountered this issue before. Let me check and get back to you.

Any update on this one @Damian Andre ?

@Damian Andre any update on it? last week Microsoft moved Premium SSD V2 to GA.

@Damian Andreor anyone else from Commvault side?

Is here an update when Premium V2  and in what version this will be supported?

Thx

Marcel

@Damian Andre any update on this one? At Azure they just made it GA for Azure Backup → https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/updates/premium-ssd-v2-backup-support-ga/

Found the answer myself….. Support is added in the CPR2024E release that was released yesterday.

Support for Azure Ultra Disks and Premium SSDv2 Disks

Customers using Azure will now be able to easily back up and recover their high performance Ultra and SSDv2 disks through incremental snapshots. This feature ensures that important data stored in these disks can be securely saved and quickly restored when needed, providing peace of mind and minimizing the risk of data loss.

Hi Onno,

I don’t find this section under the link anymore. It was there till last week. Do you know if this is withdrawn from the 2024E release?

It seems they indeed changes this as it is also visible as “Not able to protect” here https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/essential/protecting_azure_virtual_machines_with_commvault.html

It mentions some azure limitation...

I would open a ticket for it to get more clarity. Maybe they ran into issues requiring changes to the current implementation. But it is odd that this was changed without notice.

@Damian Andre can you please update us on the current status of Azure Premium SSD V2 support?

@Damian Andre can you please update us on the current status of Azure Premium SSD V2 support?

Finding out. It was supposed to be there in 11.36 which is why it was noted that it was mentioned. Not sure what happened. I do see a bunch of updates in the works, there might have been some issue.

Thanks @damiank! In the meantime we received information that it is part of FR36.22.

Thank you both: Onno & Damian,

Its confusing, I don’t believe its true. May be we need to have a clarity on which part of the doc is true, the one that we saw before and its disappered now. Or, the above link?

I trust my source, so I would suggest to test it 😉 I do however agree with you that the lack of clear communication is causing a lot of unclarity.

I would skip MR22 and move to MR24. I see some fixes mentioned in release list referring to v2 and ultra disks functions.

For 11.36 it was behind a key initially. The docs were accidentally exposed and that is why it was hidden later.

I’m told by the PM that it is coming very soon - so even with the latest MR I am unsure if it is working without a key right now going on their info. Looks like that docs page was updated last Friday, so this could be the release they were waiting for.

I am tempted to rename @Onno van den Berg to Detective Onno 🤣

Thanks both for investigating it internally 😉

I was planning to upgrade to 11.36 just for this ssd v2 support. So, I will wait for a clear announcement, hopefully with the next release.

@Damian Andre & @Onno van den Berg    While you helped to conclude that ssd v2 support is “coming very soon”, is there any exptected date documented anywhere which I can show to my customer?

Situation is: We cannot move few of their Hana server under CV until v2 ssd is not supported.

Thanks

Based on feedback it is supported with the latest version for agent based DB backups. So, not for VM-level backups. It was added in a maintenance release for FR36 and based on latest release notes I would suggest to test it with the most recent one to make sure you have all fixes in place.

I sent both of you emails with early access information. I hope you got them.

Hi @Damian Andre

Yes, I received the email with doc attached. Thanks for sharing.
Last friday, I updraded my CV landscape to 11.36.28

But I am not able to find where shall I add those additional setting that was under pre-req section of the doc.

without that the job still fails.

I created a support case for technical investigation (#241106-307).

We are wondering if this add setting to be updated under below? If so, what should be value

@Damian Andre @Onno van den Berg
@Marc De Schepper shared the key to be added. I do see the job succeed after adding the key. However, I am testing a restore to ensure the backup data is recoverable.

I am facing little challange with F&F and Full vm restore. I will investigate at my level and update you all with its status.

Thanks for your extended help so far..

Restores is also success. ssd v2 is working with 11.36.28. Thanks a ton to @Damian Andre & @Onno van den Berg
