Backup Amazon machine

Forum|alt.badge.img+6

Hi, in the documentation, we can read “The Virtual Server Agent for Amazon creates crash-consistent backups of all instances that are selected for a subclient.” I would suppose that to have an application consistent backup of an Amazon machine, we need to install the specific Commvault agent(s) on the Amazon machine? Thanks.

VSA protects instances/virtual machines/compute, in some Hypervisors backups are crash consistent.

App aware allows to inject plugin or agent to protect the application using the VSA backup but the instances/virtual machines/compute will still be crash consistent.

The fact of using VSA to protect an application with App Aware does not convert the virtual machine backup in File System and Application Consistent

With VSA for Amazon you have Application aware option for some applications, see below:

https://documentation.commvault.com/11.25/essential/106406_application_support_for_hypervisors.html

But it is also a great option to install the respective agent in the Amazon guest.

Thanks but then I see some “contradictions” (or confusion) between the following Commvault articles:

Application Support for Hypervisors (commvault.com)

“The following table shows the applications that are supported for application-aware backups of specific hypervisors using the VSA”

Hypervisor

Active Directory

Microsoft Exchange

Microsoft SharePoint

Microsoft SQL Server

Oracle database for Windows

Oracle database for Linux

and

Backups (commvault.com)

“The Virtual Server Agent for Amazon creates crash-consistent backups of all instances that are selected for a subclient.”

Amazon (commvault.com)

“From the Command Center, you can use the Auto discover applications option to automatically find applications on servers and install the agents that can back up the applications. (For more information, see Automatic Discovery of Applications in the Command Center.)”

Thanks for your advice
