Hello Community and Happy New Year!
In a client, we have a primary storage policy using a Disk Library (DDB). Needed also a tape out (copy-2). The HPE tape library is already configured and accessible via MediaAgent.
For these auxiliary copies (Copy-2) to tape, we need to create two distinct groups:
-
Weekly backups with 4 weeks retention
-
Monthly backups with infinite retention
What is the recommended best practice?
- Stick with the default storage pool for both aux copy types (and rely on retention rules/scheduling to differentiate)?
- Or create two dedicated storage pools (e.g., "Weekly_Tape_Pool" and "Monthly_Tape_Pool"), assign specific tapes/drive pools to each, and configure the aux copy operations/rules to target the appropriate pool based on backup frequency?
Also, it’s important the tapes to remain strictly separated, no mixing of weekly and monthly data on the same tapes!
Thanks in advance for your insights and real-world experience!
Best regards,
Nikos
