Commvault alerts and SNMP v2

Forum|alt.badge.img+3

Hi!

As you know, Commvault’s alerts are supported with SNMPv1 and SNMPv3, but do you know why SNMPv2 is not supported?

One of our customers is using v2 and he is interesting to use this protocol…

Thanks.

Hi,

SNMP V2 uses only primary authentication where as SNMP v3 uses both primary and secondary authentication(two level of password protection).
Since SNMP v3 is more secure and an industry standard commonly used method, we suggest to use SNMP v3 method to send or receive traps.

You pose a great question. I’ll see if I can find out.

It looks like you might be able to proxy/convert SNMPv2 traps to SNMPv3 using linux and net-snmp. Not a great solution but may get you out of a bind.

Thank you @Damian Andre @John B, I understand perfectly well that it is a security issue, no more...v3 is more secure.
