We have a physical media agent server, that is very old and want to replace it with new physical server.
So, we need to migrate / Hardware refresh the media agent server with same hostname and IP.
What is the procedure and steps, we need to folow to perform this task smoothly.

@Albert Williams
Thanks for sharing the steps.

In this procedure, we have to install new MA server with new IP and hostname. and then migrate all Library, DDB, Index data to new MA. But we unable to allocate new IP and hostname in our environment.

How can we do hardware refresh or replcae old MA hardware with New MA without changing IP and hostname?

Alternatively.

  1. On the original Media Agent, recording the following
    1. Client Name (name in command center / commcell console)
    2. Index cache location (drive letter + path)
    3. DDB location(s) (drive letter + path)
    4. Disk library / mount path locations and folder structure (drive letter + path)
    5. Retain the data (dismount disks / copy the data to temp location)
  2. On the new media agent
    1. Install OS - same name / IP
    2. Install CV software with same client name
    3. Stop services
    4. Put the same driver letter / paths in place for index, DDB and disk library storage
    5. Put data back
    6. Start services
