Media not available error

Forum|alt.badge.img+3

Hi Team,

Added a new Tape library in the commvault software, it was added & configured successfully, but when tried to export the media by “ Listing” option it is throwing error no media available.

Medias are inserted the physical TL & the inventory is also performed.

Have attached the screen shot.

Please help here.

regards

Kangkan

You are only detecting the two tape drives so this result in configuring a standalone Tape library with two drives.

HP Library tools is also not detecting the tape library/autoloader and displays only two drives.

Your MA vsa-proxy-server should detect at the operating system level the medium changer for MSL 3040.

Hello @kangkan

As per the screenshot you have created a Stand Alone Library

If you have configured the stand alone library please check the below Documentation to create the tapes.

https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/11456_create_tape_or_stand_alone_library.html

https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/11456_create_tape_or_stand_alone_library.html

https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/11457_performing_drive_operations.html

If you want to use the Normal tape library with physical tapes and Medium changer you need configure as normal tape library, please refer to below documentation.

Hello @kangkan

As per the screenshot there are no medias present inside the library hence you are seeing the error.

Have you loaded the tapes to the library? can you share some snapshots from the Tape library console to confirm there are media present inside the library

Hello @kangkan

So from the console we are unable to detect any tape?

Can you use the tape tool on MA and try to read the label of the media by loading a tape to the tape drive

https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/10587_tapetool_windows.html

We wanted to confirm that if you are able to perform some kind of activity on the tape library from Medi agent

From your screenshots I see there is no barcode reader for your library that also shows no tapes at all.

This could be the root cause of your problem, as you have a blind tape library you cannot recognize the tapes barcodes.

When you configured the tape library, were you asked about a barcode reader?

@Ledoesp thanks for the reply…during the configuration nothing was asked…it was very straightforward

Can you check if the Media Agent operating system is able to detect the medium changer of the tape library?

this is needed if you want to use a barcode reader and configure a sighted library instead of a blinded library as you already have. I am assuming you do have a barcode reader in your tape library model and with barcodes in the tapes cartridges.

Hi @Ledoesp ,

Thanks you are right. Issue got resoved now. Let me brief here with steps.

Our Setup:

  1. We have been using Ovirt Hosted Engine Cluster.
  2. VSA node(MA server) is one of the virtual machine from the above Ovirt Cluster.
  3. We have added the MSL Tape Library to the Physical node of the Ovirt Cluster & from that only the SCSI IDs of Two Tape drives are added to the VSA virtual machine(MA Server), we missed to add the SCSI IDs of the MSL Tape Library.Because of this MSL Tape library is not showing in Device manager of the VSA node(from OS). Same has been done & we able to see the Medium changer & also the media in the commvault cell.

Attached perfect screen shots for reference.

Appreciate your help & Thanks to @Theja also for his responses.
