Hey everyone,

I have an EOL Media Agent1 set up for CM, and I want to decommission it and create a new Media Agent2. I’ve looked through the docs, and I see we can transfer everything manually or by using the Replace MediaAgent app.

Since I’ve got 250 TB of data, I’m not sure which option is better. What are the pros and cons of doing it manually vs using the Media Agent app?

Also, do I need to cancel all backups while I’m transferring the data?

And, if I set up Media Agent2 from scratch and recreate all the jobs, can I still use Media Agent1 if something goes wrong?

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi @Shivakp ,

Please refer to the documents below for details related to Media Agent migration. The migration can be performed either manually or by using the Media Agent Migration App.

The Media Agent Migration App provides an automated process and is suitable for the current scenario.

The existing Media Agent (MA) can still be retained and used if needed. However, after the migration, the storage will be mapped to the new MA machine, which significantly reduces the need for the old MA server.

Hi @Shivakp As you might have seen the prerequisites for the Media Agent migration app, you might have considered the move mountpath option to move the data.

Move mountpath has 2 phase. Phase 1 allows jobs (backup, restore, auxiliary copy, data verification, synthetic full etc.), however Phase 2 would suspend backup and other operations for the source mount path to move active volumes.

You can refer to move mountpath documentation for reference.
