Hello Commvault community!

We are planning to change primary smtp address and UPN of our o365 users.
So, Im try to find if will be any conflict in backups, discovery or licensing after these changes.

For example:
- Email   nikos@microsoft.gr   change  to   nikos@microsoft.com
- UPN   nikos@microsoft.gr  change to  nikos@microsoft.com

Thank you in advance!

Yes that is correct CV is leveraging the objectGUID in AD.

You can see the referenced guid in the cvmailbackup logs with the user smtp.

Also correct onedrive is the same.

Hello @Nikos.Kyrm

The user association is based on the GUID for the mailbox and not the name/SMTP address.

These can be changed as many times as you like as the GUID will stay the same and should not have any effect on the mailbox being protected.

Kind regards

Dear @Albert Williams

Thanks for your reply!

So, the GUID is generated from Commvault side or is based from Microsoft side ?

Hello @Nikos.Kyrm

The GUID is the ID that is assigned and created by Microsoft on the creation of the mailbox.

Kind regards

@Albert Williams  OK, so I assume this is it from Azure AD, right?

This is also for OneDrive users, right?

Backup for OneDrive is based also in Microsoft GUID?

Thanks once again!

Hello @Scott Reynolds

Back to this thread, yes I confirm that you can see the GUID of a user within cvmailbackup.log.

Although, I can’t find any relevant view via Command Center, right?
An association user / mailbox ↔ GUID.
