Hello teammates,

Im looking for Commvault extra reports for o365 and I checked the “Office365 Retention Stats”.

I'm trying to figure out what’s the point of this report, as the retention for o365 services are still only infinity!

(version 11.34.38).

Please for your feedback.

Best regards,
Nikos

Hello @Sujay kumar and thanks for your reply.

So, currently the retention for Exchange online backups only allows item-level retention, not date-based retention, right?

Have a nice day!

Retention works a little different in M365 - Items can still be deleted from the index, which renders them un-restorable, required for legal and compliance purposes. This should be what the report is referring to.

@Damian Andre ,  Deleting the data from the index does not really seem like enough.   The backups are still on my tapes.  I could re-index the backup or us and old Commvault DB and recover the old data.

This makes me uneasy when auditors ask me questions.

Not sure if you get to know any inside info being a founder :-)  but have you heard anything about when CV development is targeting to be able to delete the data from the backups vs just the index?   I am sure we are all really looking forward to getting space back on our libraries.  Seems like the Synthetic full would really help out in this situation.

Thank you,
