Hello Community,

###When data from previous backups is deleted, you can view the deleted items on the Browse tab of the Restore Files page###

https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/essential/4431_displaying_or_hiding_deleted_data.html#:~:text=From%20the%20navigation%20pane%2C%20go,The%20Restore%20Files%20page%20appears.

I have a question regarding the restoration of deleted data mentioned in the above article. I would like to know if it is possible to restore deleted data in the following scenario:

IDA: Wins file system / vsa for azure

Suppose daily incremental backups (15 days retention) and regular full/syn full backups are performed once a week (15 days retention)., and monthly backups are kept for a year, with backups occurring on the first day of each month.

On day 1, a file is created and deleted on day 4.

Three months later, the customer wishes to restore the deleted file from day 4.

Is the deleted file included in the second monthly backup that was performed on the first day of the second month, or is the deleted file included in every monthly backup?

If the deleted file is included in subsequent monthly backups(as long as monthly backup run/complete), we would like to know how the deleted backup is incorporated or what the backup process is behind the scenes.

Alternatively, what is the correct method to protect deleted data?

thank you

Is the deleted file included in the second monthly backup that was performed on the first day of the second month, or is the deleted file included in every monthly backup?

The deleted item is only included in the incremental or full backups it was protected in. There is an option for file system backups (not VSA) where you can extend retention for deleted files (Object based retention) - but this will force you to use synthetic full backups.

@Damian Andre  thank you

does Object based retention work for azure file share backup?
