Hi,

Currently our CommServe and Media Agent are located in a domain. For security reasons, we would like to remove the Media Agent from the domain.

Would it be sufficient to make sure the CommServe communicates with the Media Agent over IP instead of FQDN, and the same for the Media Agent to the CommServe?

Do we need to think about anything else?

Or can we just remove the Media Agent from the domain? I suppose DNS will still work even outside of the domain.

During backup phase, Client machines communicate with the Media Agent also so you will need to make sure the communication exists between clients and MA apart from Commserve.

 

The easiest thing is to keep the DNS lookup working both on hostname and FQDN, if needing manually update the DNS to keep the comms. Also ensure there are no port restrictions introduced post the move to workgroup. By keeping the hostname and comms intact you will have less config edits to be done.
