Hello everyone,

My customer had a question we can’t seem to find the answer for.
We’re wondering if we can have different retentions for active users deleted items and for users that are deleted/disabled in EntreID. As far as I can find Commvault doesn’t see a difference between deleted items and deleted users.

Or has someone found a “Work around” for this?

Hi @Owen de Cuba

Good day!!--startfragment>

Commvault provides flexibility in configuring retention policies for Exchange Online mailboxes.

Retention policies are generally applied at the mailbox level.

Commvault's approach to Exchange Online retention is item-level. A deleted email from an active user and an email within the mailbox of a now-deleted user are subject to the same retention rules as defined by their shared Office 365 plan.

Commvault does not differentiate between deleted items and deleted/disabled users in terms of retention

Disabled mailboxes (from Azure AD) are not actively backed up, but their previously backed-up data is retained and can still be restored.

These mailboxes are marked as disabled and skipped during backup jobs but remain visible in the GUI for recovery purposes.
