Hello! I’m being tasked to simulate a DR for a system (server and DB) from tape exclusively. I’ve only done normal restores and I’m not sure how/if I can do that from a tape while having the backed up data on my disk library. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hello @Christian Moisan

You can restore the CommServe DB from tape following the below guide.

Retrieval of Disaster Recovery (DR) Backups From Storage - https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/43561_retrieval_of_disaster_recovery_dr_backups_from_storage.html

Thank you,
Collin

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I don’t want to restore the commserve DB, just a specific system and DB I would pick to test if restoring from tape works. No need to restore anything else, just the OS and DB.

Thanks!

@Christian Moisan

No worries. To restore from the Tape copy you can perform a restore as you normally would.

You can either view the backup history on the client and change the copy precedence in the Browse\Restore options or you can view the backups from the Tape Copy and Browse\Restore from there.

Browsing and Restoring from Copies - https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/12893_browse_and_restore_data_advanced.html

  1. In the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > Agent.

  2. Right-click a backup_set or subclient, then click All Tasks > Browse and Restore.

  3. From the Restore Options dialog box, click the Advanced Options tab.

  4. Select Browse from copy precedence checkbox and specify the preference number.
