Hi,
we backup our Exchange 2016 server with virtual server agent (vSphere, full VM backup) and with Exchange database agent.
When i backup data from Exchange database agent to a WORM tape is it possible to restore single items?
Or only the complete database?

Regards
Dennis

@Dennis

In exchange backup commvault mark the recovery points and can restore individual emails/messages you want to restore,

Could you please go through the below document for the process.

https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/17100_restoring_exchange_databases.html

Kindly suggest if your query is particularly with the restore from WORM tape or general restore process for Exchange DB.

Thanks for your answer.
The general procedure is clear to me.
I would be interested in how the procedure is, especially with WORM tape if the backup is a long time in the past…...

@Dennis,

Yes, if are taking agent based backup we will be able to restore. Regarding WORM tapes, we may need to recall all the tapes required for the restore.

@Dennis
Exchange database message level recovery (live browse) from tape copy is not supported, data need to be on disk copy.

it is required to perform exchange database out of place restore option in this scenario (once all required tapes are recalled for worm copy as noted earlier in this thread)
