Question

Run INC before SF

Configuring a schedule policy that follows;

INC - everyday (except the 15th)

Synthetic Full on the 15th with Run Incremental Before SF

The issue I am seeing is that, first when I initially create the schedule policy, I can actually see the option to run INC before SF and I select it as desired. When I got back to review my settings, the “Run Incremental Backup” is not selected anymore and its grayed out preventing me from selecting it. AM I missing something here?

This is for File System *Windows and Linux and CS Version 11.32.76

Thanks

I think the checkbox is only there to enable the radio buttons for BEFORE/AFTER. My synthetic full runs an incremental before its full and the checkbox does not stay enabled but the radio button does stay enabled.

Something is a little off. Mine shows grayed out which does not allow me to check or change the BEFORE/AFTER options. Then this makes me to assume that the INC will not run.

My assumption is that, the parent option “Run Incremental Backup” should be checked so that the bottom ones can be picked.

OK - I havent been able to duplicate that - i’ve done ecit/add schedule and the tickbox has worked.

Is your GUI patched the same level as your CommCell?

Can you post a screenshot of the screen you are launching Backup Task Options from?

Here is an example

I got a dumb question - is there a synthetic full job currently running? or any job running for this subclient while attempting to schedule?

  • You must first enable the Reconcile Backup option on the subclient before you start an incremental backup operation.

  • You cannot run or schedule incremental backup jobs when a synthetic backup is running on OnePass or archiver based subclient

I know Im reaching but its getting under my skin that I cant figure out why that option would be greyed out.

Also if you can share what version of JAVA you’re running where ever you’re running the console from(CommServe or Desktop). Im at v8 update4 21

Definitely appreciate the time you have spent on this. Though the two bullet points you linked above should not matter since this is purely on a schedule policy.

  • Reconcile is enable.
  • no synthetic full jobs were running at the time I edited the policy.
  • Java Version 8 update 201

I have schedules with VSA Agent that the very option discussed here with File System is working just fine. I can check and uncheck the Run INC Backup whenever I want. Likely going to open a case on monday.

That key is already part of my CommServe and still having issues. I actually am curious as to why an additional key is necessary when the documentation says that Synthetic Full supports File System agents.

@dude - Just wanted to see if you ever got resolution on this issue. I’m interested to hear the outcome since i couldn't duplicate it.

@Ponte_Vedra I do not have a definitive answer yet. I have a open case with Commvault that was escalated to development.

Their first answer was that the INC Before Synthetic was not enable because my subclient was configured as a Intellisnap subclient. Which I thought it made sense, but then I found a VSA subclient with Intellisnap enable that allowed me to check INC before SF.

So, long story short, I`m waiting support to get back to me. Whats the behavior on your environment? Do you have intellisnap enable?
